Not only is Mr. Peale saying that you shouldn't procrastinate, he saying that procrastination is causing your fears. The world progresses with, or without you. Time is passing, and each day you are getting older. Procrastinating, or hiding from life, cannot be done without repercussions.
Don't we all know this feeling? You procrastinate, and the list of things you feel you need to do, grows. A feeling of uneasiness follows, that you really don't understand. That is a form of fear.
Confidence speaks in the positive, while fear speaks in the negative. When you are riding high, you'll use words like can, will, and could. When you're fearful, you'll use words like can't, don't, shouldn't or couldn't.

When you are on top of your life, life feels easier, and it is. You can focus all your energy on each new problem that comes up. You'll feel unencumbered, rather than weighed down, by your list of things to do, or problems in life that you haven't dealt with. Problems are minimized by confidence, rather than magnified by fear.
Staying on top of life is very important, and feels really good. The next time you feel bogged down by life, write a list of all the things that you "need" to do, or fix. Then just start doing them. Complete a task, and scratch it off. You will find a weight coming off your shoulders as you do. That action, will build confidence just like Mr. Peale said it would. Having that real confidence, will allow you to stay objective when a new problem does arise.
I absolutely love your posativity and all the work you put into changing people's lives. I can't wait to follow this blog

That's absolutely true about action. I feel that everyone that reads the quote sees it in a different way. It affects them differently depending on their current situation, their problems or their beliefs. Very positive, and a great post.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I don't make many comments on peoples blog posts. I read them alot, and I've looked at hundreds just to learn about blogging and to gather design ideas and such. Frankly, not very many of them keep my attention. But every once in a while you find someone who really has a message, someone who is making an impact, someone who really seems to want to make a difference in the world around them...That's what I see here. This is great. I love the positivity, not just in this post, but the whole blog. My hat's off to you...Good stuff, I will definately be back for more.
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking the time to leave such kind, and inspiring words Jon. It's very refreshing, and necessary to here that people are getting something positive out of my blog. I've always been a positive guy, and I put my thoughts out there, so hopefully people can grab ahold of something, and take it with them. Use it in real life. Glad to have you as a reader, and thanks again for your comments. Much more good stuff to come in 2012.
DeleteGreat post. Procrastination is a big problem for many people including me. I frequently procrastinate when I have an unsavory task to perform. I procrastinate because I fear what may result. Of limited comfort is convincing myself that the worst outcome of any task is that I could die -- and in this situation that outcome is not even possible -- so I go ahead and do the task at hand. Interestingly, more times than not, I am pleasantly surprised that I had over exaggerated the worst case and the outcome of performing the task was painless -- I should have done it earlier.
ReplyDeleteAfter realizing this I still find myself in periods where I do procrastinate. It seems go in waves for me. Another great quote I like is, "When fear present itself, Challenge it". You are exactly right about us more often then not, exaggerating the worst case.
DeleteIn hindsight, it's so much easier, and more rewarding to take chances, and make decisions. That for the comments. Please read, and share if you keep like my stuff. Thanks.
How many times in your life have you watched and envied someone who was so totally relaxed and comfortable in their own confidence hypnosis app that they spoke, moved and responded to others with complete ease? They presented themselves with effortless confidence and people seemed to gravitate towards them. Think you can’t be like that person? Think again
